Can an electric car be towed behind a motorhome? Unfortunately, the answer is no.
We have researched all electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and none confirm that this is possible. Looking in more detail, we see that it is because of the way EVs are made.
First, EVs don’t have a transmission that would shift into neutral to free the wheels without running the engines. Also, it is not possible to disconnect the wheels from the motor in any other way.
However, there are alternatives depending on the type of vehicle you use.
You can first use a small platform trailer to install your electric vehicle. This will allow you to tow your vehicle without the 4 wheels turning driving the motors, especially if you have an all-wheel-drive and/or rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
You can also use a “dolly” type tow dolly to remove the front wheels, but on condition that your EV is front-wheel drive.
Avoid using YouYou type tow bars. No VE in 2022 is compatible with this type of hitch.
EV technology is changing very fast! If you discover a compatible EV model that can be towed behind a motorhome, do not hesitate to share this great news with us!
